Trailblazers,Champions,& Changemakers

Trailblazers, Champions, & Changemakers is an environmentally staged theatre work that transforms a performance space into an interactive gallery of people who demonstrated courage, inspired change, and altered what others believed possible.

Across the gallery, audience members encounter changemakers as varied as Marvin Gaye, Gloria Steinem, Maya Angelou, Bob Marley, Dolores Huerta, Claude Cahun, Emily Dickinson, Harriet Tubman, and Harvey Milk—each offering a distinct point of entry into the relationship between individual courage and collective change.

Each ensemble member researches and embodies a real person they admire. Through original writing, physical and vocal transformation, and sustained character development, these figures emerge not as distant monuments but as complex human beings: people who confronted resistance, made consequential choices, and learned how to exercise agency within the conditions of their time.

Who gave you courage—and what might their courage ask of you now?

The audience moves through the environment, choosing whom to meet and which stories to pursue. Intimate monologues open into direct exchange. History becomes immediate, relational, and unpredictable: less a completed record than a conversation between an inherited past and the present-tense responsibilities of those listening.

The project celebrates exemplary lives without flattening them into uncomplicated heroes. It asks how change is actually made—through imagination, persistence, strategic resistance, collective action, and the difficult decision to enter public life when remaining silent would be easier.
